Dr. Benham graduated from the Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2005. She went on to complete a year-long internship outside of Boston, Massachusetts with the MSPCA – Angell Animal Medical Center, a national and international leader in animal protection and veterinary medicine. She became well versed in emergency and critical care medicine among other skills. After completing her internship, she moved to the Washington DC area and went on to practice for 5 years at an award-winning small-animal hospital in Arlington, Virginia.
Feeling it was time for a change of pace and scenery, Dr. Benham began looking for a city that offered a great quality of life, and a hospital where she could practice the high standard of veterinary medicine that she insists upon. She chose St. Petersburg, and Northeast Animal Hospital, to put down new roots and continue her personal and professional growth. She has been with us since 2011 and truly feels St. Petersburg is home.
Dr. Benham's special area of medical interest is veterinary dentistry. She has extensive additional training in this field and sees it as a personal mission to help eliminate dental pain and pathology in her patients. She also enjoys internal medicine, and cardiology. She has been a member of several local and national veterinary organizations. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Benham received a Bachelor of Science in Zoology from Miami University (Ohio) in 2001.
When she's not working, you can find her on a jet-ski, or at home with her husband Lucas and their beloved pets—their dog Kenzie and their cat Pirate Booty.
Dr. Simone Sanin is a graduate of St. George’s University School of Veterinary Medicine, and she completed her clinical year at the University of Florida. She was inducted into the Phi Zeta Honor Society, an achievement that highlights her dedication and excellence in veterinary medicine. Dr. Sanin is also Fear Free certified and feels a trip to the vet shouldn’t be a negative experience for pets.
She takes pride in helping pets feel as comfortable as possible whether it’s for a yearly check-up or serious illness. She chose to practice small animal general medicine because she loves being a big part of her patient’s lives and strives to practice high quality preventative medicine to keep pets (and their families!) happy and healthy.
Dr. Sanin is a Miami native who is fluent in Spanish. She relocated to St. Pete because she enjoys its slower pace, bustling downtown, and beautiful beaches. When she’s not working in the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her family, biking, doing just about anything involving the sea - from laying out on the beach to scuba diving - and growing her newly-formed succulent garden!
