September is Animal Pain Awareness Month

Did you know that we offer state of the art options to speed up healing, give pain relief, and boost the quality of life for our pets? We are proud to offer our patients Cold Laser Therapy and Stem Cell Therapy at our sister practice, Northeast Animal Hospital; but we can also suggest alternative methods to reduce pain that you may not considered.

Many are curious though, just what are Cold Laser and Stem Cell Therapy and how do they differ?

Non-invasive Cold Laser Therapy uses specific wavelengths of light to speed up the body’s natural healing process.  It has an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect which means it helps to decrease swelling and pain to the area being treated. This can also help reduce or even eliminate the need for pain medicines that can be harsh on the liver or kidneys such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatories (NSAIDs) or steroids.

Results can be seen as quickly as one treatment, however most conditions need 6-10 treatments. Common conditions for laser therapy include:

  • Arthritis/pain management
  • Intervertebral disk disease
  • Post operative pain
  • Wound healing
  • Feline lower urinary tract disease
  • Lick granulomas
  • Ear infections

Stem Cell Therapy is performed entirely in our clinic for both dogs and cats. Our Stem Cell technology does not involve embryonic stem cells; instead, we use the adult animal’s own stem cells to heal and repair and have seen dramatic improvement in pain relief and range of motion for dogs and cats suffering from osteoarthritis, hip dysplasia and other degenerative diseases.

If you are looking for alternatives to anti-inflammatories or steroids, call us today to find the pain relieving treatment plan that’s right for your pet.
